Meals Collective are looking for volunteers to support their community food initiative! They have three exciting new roles on offer, so there are plenty of ways to get involved!

Meals Collective is a non-profit organisation providing healthy comfort food and food parcels to those that need extra support during the COVID-19 crisis and beyond. They have grown from distributing 45 meals a week, to more than 200. On top of this, they’ve also distributed hundreds of food parcels to individuals and families struggling at this time.

You can contribute to this amazing work as either a Delivery Driver, Kitchen Assistant or as a Chef!

As a Delivery Driver, you’ll play an integral role in collecting cooked meals from their centre in Bridgeton and delivering to people in need. Deliveries take place Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 3pm. Ideally, you’ll be able to volunteer for an hour on any of these days – though, if you’re keen to do more, you’re more than welcome! This is an amazing opportunity to learn about emergency food response, help out locally and create lasting links with the community! They provide training and induction to get you up to speed and ready for the role – all they ask is that you have a full UK driver’s license and access to your own vehicle. They also reimburse milage so you’re not out of pocket.

If driving isn’t for you, you can make your mark as part of their kitchen team! Keep the kitchen organised as a Kitchen Assistant or feed the community as a Chef! The kitchen is open Monday to Friday each week, from 9am to 5pm. They’re flexible to suit your availability, so any time you can spare will make a huge difference. Each role provides amazing training opportunities for you to grow and develop, including gaining a food hygiene certificate! They also reimburse all reasonable travel expenses.

As a Kitchen Assistant, you’ll help out in the kitchen, washing dishes and generally ensuring the upkeep of the busy kitchen. In return, you’ll gain valuable experience in a professional kitchen, have the opportunity to learn the basics of cooking and receive mentorship from a professional chef. No previous skills or experience are needed for this role, though an interest in food and nutrition are beneficial!

As a Chef, you’ll take part in anything from food preparation to cooking nutritious meals. You’ll gain professional experience in a friendly, relaxed working environment that’ll look great on your CV! You’ll also receive mentorship from a professional chef and have the chance grow in a community based grassroots group. Previous experience is beneficial for this role, though a willingness to learn is more important.
