Make a run for it! Become a Befriender with an older man who is fit and active in NW Glasgow.

Volunteer Glasgow’s Elderly Befriending Service are on the lookout for a volunteer to support a fit and active 61 year old man with Alzheimer’s. You would go out with him once a week 1 – 3 hours for a long, slow run at the West of Scotland Science Park. He has has always loved running, and used to run Marathons until Alzheimer’s set in, he is super fit, but does slow down at times when out running – so will walk and run when you’re out with him. His fitness and enjoyment of running is one of the only enjoyable past times he has.

This client would benefit from having a volunteer to go out running with him one day per week (preferably a Thursday or Saturday), the volunteer would need his/her own transport to be able to take him to the Science Park as this is his usual route.

As a Befriender you will develop a relationship with a Senior where you share time, activities and conversations which benefit both of you. You will receive training before you are asked to make a commitment to a match so that you’re clear what will be expected of you and what you can expect of your volunteering experience and you will be supported throughout.
