Team Volunteering
Team Volunteering (whether you’re a workplace team, a family or a faith group) brings benefits to individuals in teams and to all our communities. Volunteer Glasgow can provide the support you need to realise its benefits.
Why it’s great!
Organisations and employers can:
- Access valuable team building activities that don’t involve paintballing or trust games.
- Realise aspirations around their own values in a very real and active way.
Community groups, charities and public sector organisations (not-for-profits) can:
- Access groups of willing helpers for those big jobs that are important but often slip down the priorities list.
- Access skills and abilities for specific tasks.
Individuals in teams can:
- Try out volunteering without making a lengthy commitment and it’s all organised by someone else.
- Spend time with colleagues and can see them in a whole new light!
Individuals and families in our communities benefit through increased service provision and more cohesion amongst different sectors. We all operate in Glasgow so that’s got to be good, right?
What’s needed for success?
Community groups, charities and public sector organisations (not-for-profits) need
- clarity about what a team is offering, whether that’s about the kind of task a team wants, when it can happen or whether any particular skills, tools or equipment might be part of the offer.
- notice and time to organise so that a team gets a good experience. The chances are that they have everything sorted for this month but sure could use some help next month!
Teams need
- clarity about what is needed.
- assurance that they’ll be looked after and that their contribution is valued.
- maybe a cup of tea and a biscuit – just what any volunteer wants!
Remember this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship!
What does success look like?
In June 2026 a team from Lloyds Bank spent a day volunteering at ApparelXchange. The Lloyds Team Manager Angela said “We spent the day sorting and organising donations so that it’s easy for customers to find the items and sizes that they want. It was brilliant, a good day out and good team-building.”
“The Volunteer Glasgow process was easy – surprisingly so especially when it was so last minute. We were directed to the website and straightaway we saw a local opportunity which clearly would appeal to the team.”
