Information for Schools

Our Young Persons Befriending Service is available for pupils in Glasgow City and East Renfrewshire Councils’ schools via the Embedded Mental Health and Wellbeing in Schools Framework.

The Service offers pupils:

  • An initial, tailored, one-to-one Assessment and Wellbeing programme with a YPBS Support Worker (12 weekly sessions of 3 hours each).
  • A community-based, ongoing, one-to-one match with a trained, vetted adult volunteer Mentor.
  • Ongoing engagement, support and monitoring from the Support Worker and Service Manager.

Befriending provides one-to-one support, and it:

  • Builds resilience.
  • Develops self esteem and confidence.
  • Increases skills and aspirations.
  • Is a relationship of consistent support, respect, choice and challenge.

Young Persons Befriending Service:

  • Is for young people aged 8-18. It can therefore support pupils who are transitioning from primary to secondary school; or pupils going from school to adult life.
  • Is consistent support, delivered by the trained, supported volunteer best equipped for an individual young person’s needs and aspirations.
  • Takes place in the community. It is therefore accessible for young people who don’t attend school. And you don’t have to find a space for it!

You can see further information about the service on the Framework here.
