The Saltire Awards were launched on 1st April 2012 and are the Scottish Government’s recognition programme designed for young people volunteering between the ages of 12 and 25.

Any participant can progress through the various stages but also has the option to enter and exit the programme at any level.

The Saltire Awards also dovetail neatly into the 4 key objectives of Curriculum for Excellence as they will enable young people to develop their capacities through volunteering as successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors.

Four awards are available. These are The Challenge; The Approach; The Ascent; The Summit. Achievement and recognition is also realised through an award of Young Scot points.

On completion of the various levels, young volunteers will be presented with a Saltire Award certificate.  This offers complete flexibility making it more accessible to young people regardless of ability, personal circumstances and lifestyles.

Saltire Ambassadors: Those who have completed the Ascent will then be invited to become Saltire Ambassadors. Ambassadors will be involved in the Saltire Award at every level from promotional and publicity activities through to decision-making roles on the Summit Award panel.

How to Register: Visit the website www.saltireawards.org.uk to find out more on how your organisation or school can register themselves and their young people to the Saltire Awards and then request a certification at the appropriate achievement stages of the Award.

Young Scot Reward Points: Young people can also earn Young Scot Reward Points on their journey through volunteering and achieving their certificated Saltire Award hours of 10, 25, 50, 100 and 200 hours which could entitle them to some fantastic prizes. Keep up-to-date with the Saltire Awards website for information on how to claim.
