Organisation Support Team – 2022 in review, and how we can help your organisation in the new year.

🌟 Happy Holidays from The Organisation Support Team🌟

This year has been a difficult one for many,  with lots of ups and downs! We wanted to take this chance to thank you all for your continued support and engagement, and to let you know that Volunteer Glasgow are on hand to help you with anything and everything volunteering.

Volunteer Glasgow will be closed for the holidays, from Friday 23rd December, and will re-open on Wednesday 4th January 2023.

Online opportunity advertising

In 2022, we received 2,128 new registrations on our website from people looking to get into volunteering, with a total of 19,058 people registered. With the help of organisations like yours, we’ve been able to provide opportunities in all sorts of different areas, from admin and office work, through to arts, culture, youth and sports. A total of 696 volunteer opportunities have been live on our website over the last 12 months.

Training and events

This year we held nine Advertising Workshops with over 60 people signing up, giving organisations a chance to learn and share ideas around inclusive volunteer recruitment.

Eight Volunteer Managers’ Networking Events had sign ups of more than 50 Managers and Coordinators from across the city. Our feedback reveals that 91% of them said they felt better able to recruit, manage and retain volunteers. Two of these events were in-person, with sessions in Barlanark Community Centre and Ibrox Library. We will continue to run quarterly Networking Events both online and across the city in the new year – let us know if you’d like to see one of these events in your community!

In 2023 we have more opportunities to take part in our training and events:

  • Advertising Workshops – 19th Jan, 16th Feb, 21st Mar.
  • Networking Events – 9th Mar, 14th Mar.

Keep an eye on our Eventbrite page to find out more, and to book your spot.

If you’re new to volunteer management, have plans to redevelop your volunteering programme or would like to the chance to learn from others – take a look at our upcoming Smarter Volunteer Managers’ training coursemore details here. There are still spaces remaining on our programme in early 2023 starting on Wednesday 15th February 2023, for six weeks, 10am – 1pm.

Trustees Week – November 2022

November 7th – 11th saw the recurrence of Trustees Week, where organisations up and down the country took part in activities to thank their trustees and also to recruit new ones! This year’s theme was making a difference in changing times” and we know that trustees certainly do make a huge difference to communities by volunteering their time and expertise.

Volunteer Glasgow teamed up with GCVS, GSEN and CEIS to run a series of training events and get-togethers to boost the knowledge of boards and their members, and to help struggling charities to find essential new trustees.

Our Getting on Board event (10th Nov) hosted by Project Ability on the Trongate, brought around 20 individuals interested in becoming trustees, and six representatives from a varied selection of organisational boards together, to provide the opportunity to learn and to matchmake (tasty food provided by Soul Food Sisters!)

A big thanks to Bikes4Refugees, North United Communities, Spirit of SpringburnClutter Chat, Givin’ it Laldie and Weekday Wow Factor for their passionate presentations on the night!
