Last year we had a whopping 668 people attend and this year we are hoping to maximise on the New Year boost that volunteering can gain at the start of the year.
We are encouraging priority to organisations who can commit to recruiting volunteering in a more inclusive way by. See full details here and book your stall!

A Summary of our recent Inclusive Volunteering Event

The Inclusive Volunteering Event successfully achieved its primary aim of helping Volunteer Involving Organisations (VIOs) better understand and articulate the benefits of an inclusive approach to volunteer recruitment and management. With 62% of participants rating this aim as fully achieved, the event provided practical insights into removing barriers to volunteering and engaging underrepresented groups. Workshops focusing on mental health, refugees and asylum seekers, and disabled individuals were highly rated, with the session led by the Scottish Refugee Council standing out as particularly impactful. Participants also appreciated the relevance of the plenary sessions, especially the FREDA and PANEL principles, which resonated as useful frameworks for inclusive practices.

Key recommendations for future events include extending workshop durations to allow for deeper exploration of topics and providing more structured networking opportunities to enhance collaboration. Improving venue accessibility, clarifying presentation materials, and including personal case studies from volunteers were also suggested to make the event even more impactful. By addressing these recommendations, Volunteer Glasgow can continue to build on the event’s success and ensure that its efforts to foster inclusivity in volunteering remain relevant, effective, and inspiring.

At previous events, we have featured Workshops focusing on people with experience of the criminal justice system, young people, people experiencing mental health issues, refugees and asylum seekers, and disabled individuals;

As the dust settles, we would like to invite you to consider the following question:

Which under-represented groups would like to see featured at next year’s Inclusive Volunteering Event?

If you’re not already taking full advantage of our free advertising services to recruit people for your latest/updated volunteering roles and opportunities across Glasgow, now is the time: in addition to your group/organisation being able to capitalise on the increased awareness of volunteering from the Glasgow 850 birthday celebrations from now and throughout 2025 , there will also be a national volunteer recruitment campaign launching across Scotland from 5th December.

Glasgow 850 is a great opportunity to promote your organisation to volunteers, enhancing your volunteer pool and to create a fun and engaging experience to thank your volunteers for their support.

You could hold an open day to highlight your volunteering opportunities and the work you do or hold a celebration tea with your existing volunteers. You don’t need to create brand new events or activities but can weave a Glasgow 850 theme into your activity, such as history, culture, local changes or traditions, raising the profile and connection with your community.

If you set up an event or activity that is Glasgow 850 related and are looking for volunteers, we encourage you to tag ‘Glasgow 850’ on the opportunity in Volunteer Glasgow Team Kinetic.

This will help volunteers who are interested in supporting Glasgow 850 to find your opportunities and enhance the reach of your promotion.
