Volunteer Glasgow News
Will Volunteering affect my DWP benefits?…
As a Volunteer Manager, you may have been asked this question.
The UK Government web site says:
“You can volunteer and claim benefits if:
- The only money you get from volunteering is to cover expenses, like travel costs.
- You continue to meet the conditions of the benefit you get.”
We strongly advise you to look at gov.uk/guidance/volunteering-and-claiming-benefits (opens in new browser tab/window) where many of your additional questions have been answered by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
In addition, the DWP have provided a policy statement (new in 2021) on Volunteering and Work Capability Assessments: please contact us and we’ll send you a copy.
Volunteer Advertising System Update
Our Volunteer Advertising System is going to have a large update (Date TBC). The system developers, Team Kinetic have made some fantastic improvements in this version that we look forward to sharing with you.
We don’t envisage that there will disruption with this system update. For the most part the way that you log in and interact with the system won’t have changed thankfully.
We will try to update our user guidance as soon as we can but if there is any aspects that you have questions about when the changes come, you can always ask us questions and get support via firstname.lastname@example.org
Connect with peer Volunteer Managers via our Slack Forum
Thank you to those that have already joined our Slack forum for Volunteer Managers. It is fantastic to see a growing number of people connecting and taking part.
We are developing ways to use the forum to make it as helpful for you all as possible. One idea that we will trial is creating a weekly chat hour that invites members to come together and have ‘live’ conversations on the forum.
There is a training channel specifically for sharing helpful training ideas for yourselves as a volunteer manager or the volunteers that you manage.
The forum will develop overtime as it grows and changes to suit members needs.
Click on the the following link to read our blog about Slack.
Join us for our FREE two hour online interactive workshop, you can learn how to improve the effectiveness of your volunteering advertising.
