Can your organisation support the next generation of volunteers?

Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of meeting a group of primary 6 pupils from Bankhead Primary School in Knightswood. I was there to deliver a short, interactive workshop on volunteering and the children were really engaged and excited to participate.

During a memory game, the children were asked to come up with words that spring to mind when they hear the word, ‘volunteering’, and they came up with some brilliant suggestions, such as ‘community’, ‘kindness’ and ‘collaborating’. It seems our younger generation already has a pretty good grasp on the concept of volunteering!

Their Head Teacher is keen to get the pupils involved in their local community through some kind of volunteering activity and, for this, they really need the support of a couple of (ideally) local organisations to involve the pupils for around an hour or so each week over a period of around 5-6 weeks. This would be such a great opportunity for the pupils to learn more about what volunteering involves, to try out some activities, and find out what’s going on in their local area. This is a chance for your organisation to be part of something that will help to develop the skills and awareness of a future generation of volunteers.

Perhaps the children will tell their Mums, Dads, Grannies and Grandpas all about your fantastic volunteering opportunities and you have an entirely new and effective way to recruit new volunteers! If you have been toying with the idea of setting up Family Volunteering opportunities (or already facilitate these), this could be a great starting point…

Vicky is looking to make contact with local organisations – either in Knightswood itself, or in the wider North West of the city. If you think your organisation could host this group or you have a question for Vicky, please get in touch using the online form below.

I hope the children can bring a smile to your face just as they did to mine! 😊
