Ruchazie & Garthamlock Volunteering Fair

Volunteer Glasgow is hosting a Volunteering Fair at Greater Easterhouse Supporting Hands on Friday 22nd March at 10AM – 3PM! This fair is specifically aimed at residents in Ruchazie & Garthamlock and the organisations present will be promoting opportunities local to this area.

This is a fantastic opportunity for Ruchazie & Garthamlock residents to:

  •       Speak directly with local organisations about volunteering.
  •       Find out about existing opportunities to volunteer in the area – including opportunities in retail, conservation & gardening, sports & outdoor activities, support work and more.
  •       Learn about the health and wellbeing benefits of volunteering, and/or how volunteering can boost your employability.
  •       Sign up to volunteer or learn more about how to get involved.

Tea & coffee will be available throughout the day. Everyone local to the area is welcome! Please share with any community members who may benefit from the event.

If you support the communities of Ruchazie, Garthamlock, and the surrounding areas, and you’d like to host a stall at the event, please get in touch with kate.hughes@volunteerglasgow.org ASAP.

New fees for volunteers’ PVG membership?

Disclosure Scotland have launched a consultation which includes proposals for a new set of fees for disclosures and PVG membership.  Since instigation, these checks have always been free to qualifying third sector organisations.

If your organisation would be affected by these proposals, please take the opportunity to view the proposals and respond: click here for the Disclosure Scotland consultation website.

We are acutely aware of the impact of increasing costs for volunteering programmes across public and third sector organisations:
  • You can drop us an email at findvolunteers@volunteerglasgow.org so that we can collate Glasgow views and amplify our collective voice to the consultation response.
  • You can also get involved in the national Volunteering Policy Champions Network that is facilitated by Volunteer Scotland: click here for more info and to join the group.
  • Disclosure Scotland are also offering short workshops to review the proposals laid out in the consultation, giving you the opportunity to give your feedback and highlight what should be considered.  If you’re interested in attending any of these sessions please contact the Disclosure Scotland Events Team via email: dsworkshop@disclosurescotland.gov.scot

Earth Week 2024 – Highlighting Eco Initiatives

April 22nd is Earth Day – at Volunteer Glasgow, we want to celebrate by highlighting volunteering opportunities, projects, and organisations

taking action to protect the planet.

If  you have a climate action volunteering opportunity, make sure you upload it before 22nd April so that we can highlight it in our Earth Week event and social media campaign. We’d also love to hear from organisations with an eco focus so that we can give you a shout out on our channels – get in touch with kate.hughes@volunteerglasgow.org to tell us about your work!

Help us make Volunteering more Inclusive

Please share your experience of involving and supporting people with lived experience of the criminal justice system by completing this short survey (8 questions; approx 20mins to complete).

A number of Community Justice Glasgow partners are working together to collate, assess and then share (with everyone) a new, best practice toolkit for further increasing all our chances of providing positive, inclusive opportunities. The survey closes next Tuesday 19th March.
