Organisation Support e-bulletin June 2026

Welcome to our Monthly e-Bulletin for June – keeping you informed with the latest news, updates and information from Volunteer Glasgow’s Organisation Support team. If you have something relevant to Volunteer Managers that you would like us to include in the next e-Bulletin, please get in touch.

Funding for your volunteer recruitment this summer Logo for All In Glasgow 2026

We have a small fund available from Glasgow 2026 for organisations in three key sectors* delivering:

  • Services and Activities for Children and Young People
  • Mental Health/Wellbeing
  • Sports and physical activity programmes

Engage with the 1,000s of people that applied to volunteer at the Games. The fund will allow for different types of engagement events (stall events, pitch style, tasters etc) to help deliver the legacy objective to “transition Games Volunteering applicants from event volunteering to other general forms of local volunteering”.

Please complete this short survey to tell us how you’d like to be involved: Maximising the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games Volunteering Legacy  – Fill in form

*The sectors are in line with the city partners’ current policy priorities.

Upcoming Events

Online Networking for Volunteer Managers & Coordinators

There are still spaces available for our upcoming online networking event, taking place on Tuesday 23rd June.

The facilitated session will run from 2:00pm – 3:30pm and offers a valuable opportunity to connect with others who engage with and support volunteers —both locally and nationally. Share ideas, exchange updates, and discuss common challenges in a supportive, peer-led environment. It’s a great way to stay informed and explore practical solutions with experienced colleagues.

You can book your space by clicking this link for our dedicated Volunteer Glasgow Eventbrite page.

The session will take place on Microsoft Teams. You’ll receive a joining link by email in advance—no Teams account is required to take part.

This event is free to attend. To ensure fair access, we ask that each organisation nominates one member of staff.

Volunteer Advertising Workshop

As we approach the mid-way point of the year (yes, really), it is a good time to review your volunteering programmes and consider if your existing opportunities could do with a refresh!

This free online workshop will show you how to use and make the most of our digital advertising services, and to learn more about effective, inclusive and accessible volunteer advertising, including how to craft an engaging, volunteer-centred volunteering opportunity advert.

Our next workshop takes place on:

Thursday 16th July
10:30am – 12:00pm on TEAMS.

You can book your space by clicking this link for our dedicated Volunteer Glasgow Eventbrite page.

A Smarter Way to Manage Volunteers

“I started the programme with next to no formal knowledge or understanding of the volunteer journey. I am leaving feeling confident in the process and my ability to support volunteers. I have developed practical skills and have gained resources that will positively impact volunteers in my organisation. I’d highly recommend this programme to anyone interested in the volunteer process!”(Participant, November, 2025)

Volunteer Glasgow’s Smarter Volunteer Manager programme gives you the tools, based on our Dynamic Model of Volunteering, to create meaningful volunteer experiences that benefit your organisation, your volunteers, and the communities they support—key to successful recruitment and retention.

Volunteers’ Week EQ Workshop with COPE Scotland

COPE Scotland was delighted to partner with Volunteer Glasgow during Volunteers’ Week to deliver a workshop on Emotional Awareness and Emotional Intelligence (EQ).

Emotional intelligence is our ability to recognise, understand and manage emotions in ourselves and others. It’s a valuable skill for everyone, but particularly important for volunteers and anyone supporting others. Developing EQ helps us communicate more effectively, deepen our empathy, build stronger relationships, and respond thoughtfully rather than reactively. Ultimately, it enables us to create greater trust, connection and positive impact in our communities.

You can access the workshop slides here:
https://www.copescotland.com/glaswegian-way-to-wellbeing/emotional-intelligence

The page also includes a handy 31 Days of Emotional Awareness poster packed with simple ideas to help build emotional awareness.

You may also enjoy this booklet which explores how Glaswegians naturally demonstrate many qualities associated with high emotional intelligence and offers practical ideas for building on these strengths:

Interested in promoting opportunities to students at the University of Strathclyde?

Students at the University of Strathclyde are often highly skilled and tech savvy, and its international student community brings a wealth of experience and cultural perspectives. Many students are eager to develop new skills and give back to the wider community alongside studying in Glasgow. You can register directly through its website to create and manage an account, and advertise opportunities that may be relevant to students: https://www.strathunion.com/volunteering/providers/register/

In addition to promoting opportunities online, the University also hosts volunteer fairs and organises volunteer days throughout the year.
