Organisation Support Ebulletin – October 2023

Welcome to our Monthly E-bulletin for October – keeping you informed with the latest news, updates and information from Volunteer Glasgow’s Organisation Support team! If you have something relevant to Volunteer Managers that you want us to include in the next e-bulletin please let us know.

Trustees Week (6th -10th Nov 2023) – Events and Support

We’re looking forward to Trustees Week 2023 with events and services planned to support organisations and volunteers.

On Wednesday 8th November we’ll be hosting an online Volunteer Advertising Workshop with a focus on Trustee recruitment – this workshop will take place online via Teams from 10:30 – 12:30. You can book your free place on this session through Eventbrite by clicking this link.

Then, we’re hosting a Trustee Networking Morning on Thursday 9th November at Project Ability in Trongate 103. It is a great opportunity to connect with other trustees in Glasgow (national and local level). You can share ideas, news, and issues that will likely be relevant with others. This forum can be beneficial for being up-to-date and discussing solutions with experienced peers.

Whether you’re an experienced board member, a new trustee or you’re interested in volunteering on a voluntary sector board, you’re welcome to join us at our in-person networking event – so please do share with your board members!

You can book your free spot at this session (Thursday 9th Nov, 10am – 12pm) through Eventbrite by clicking this link.

We’ll also be sharing trustee volunteering opportunities on our social media platforms throughout Trustees Week, so if your opportunity needs a boost just let us know.

Christmas Opportunities

A festive reminder that Christmas is fast approaching! If your organisation is recruiting for volunteer roles that will be taking place over Christmas, make sure to submit them over the next few weeks to give you plenty of time to get back to applicants.

Fast Forward –  Scottish Gambling Education Conference

After the success of last years conference, Fast Forward are delighted to announce the second Scottish Gambling Education Conference on Thursday 16th November, on the theme of ‘engaging community voices’.

It is free, and is intended for anyone who works with children, young people, or families across Scotland. This is a hybrid event, and you can choose to attend either virtually or in person, at the Scottish Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh.
Please click here to find out more about the event and to register: https://bit.ly/SGEHConference2023

The conference will focus on who in our communities we aren’t hearing from and why, when looking at gambling harms in Scotland. Our aims are:
•            To look at which communities we aren’t hearing from when we discuss gambling harm .
•            Find out why we aren’t hearing from them by identifying those barriers and challenges.
•            Share success and good practice .
•            Create space to reflect and discuss how we can all do better in our practice to engage these voices going forward

There will be lots of opportunities for networking, and practical and interactive workshops to stimulate engagement. We’ll also be showcasing peer inspiration and education projects developed by young people. The Fast Forward AGM is being held after the conference ends and everyone is welcome to stay. (Here is the separate AGM attendee sign up link: https://bit.ly/FastforwardAGM2023)
