With an aim to strengthen the relationship between the police and young people, Police Scotland Youth Volunteers (PSYV) has been running since 2014 and now has 3 groups across the Greater Glasgow area. Groups made up of 24 young people between the ages of 13 and 17, supported by 2 Police Officer coordinators and a group of adult volunteers, work towards breaking down barriers and promoting positive role models. Young people also have the chance to volunteer and make a real difference in their local communities.
Young people across all 3 groups are always looking for ways to improve themselves and in 2016, PSYV volunteered at over 50 events completing a total of 4120 volunteering hours for our communities. These events ranged from large scale, international events such as the Military Tattoo to smaller more local events such as tea dances for our older residents – we are proud to support Moira’s Run every year. The young people also have access to training opportunities, with many becoming ‘I Am Me’ ambassadors and delivering ‘No Knives Better Lives’
