Welcome to our 2023 Spring E-Bulletin

This E-Bulletin is aimed at organisations who are working with groups and individuals who might benefit from volunteering. We aim to keep you up to date with our latest news and developments. If you have anything you would like us to include, please contact eliza.gearty@volunteerglasgow.org.

Winter is almost over, and this season, we’re encouraging you and your service-users to ‘spring into volunteering’. Read on to find out more about what’s been happening at Volunteer Glasgow and how you can get involved.

We’re Rebranding!

The Engagement and Inclusion team are no more – from this point on we will be known as The Volunteering Support Team. We are still focused on ‘engaging and including’ those from groups who are most under-represented in volunteering, but we feel that this new name is a simpler and more straight-forward description of what we do. We hope you like it as much as we do!

Changes to our Services

Following some changes to funding, we are announcing some slight changes to our services. Read on to find out how the Volunteer Glasgow Volunteering Support Team can work with your organisation in 2023-24.

Referral Agency Networking Sessions

Volunteer Glasgow offers quarterly networking sessions for organisations that are working with groups and individuals who might benefit from volunteering.

These short sessions provide an opportunity:

  • To learn about Volunteer Glasgow and the services we offer
  • To share information and experiences with your peers from other organisations
  • To discuss relevant issues or challenges that your organisation may be experiencing in terms of supporting people to access volunteering.
Each session takes place via Teams and last approximately 1 hour.  Our next sessions is scheduled for late May and we will publish details once we have them.

Volunteering Toolkit Training

If your organisation regularly works with individuals or groups who might benefit from volunteering, you may be interested in our Volunteering Toolkit which has been especially designed to enable your organisation to deliver its own volunteering information sessions and will help you provide better support to clients to help them access volunteering. We currently offer a free session once every quarter with our next session scheduled for late April/early May. Due to high demand, we expect to roll this out on a bi-monthly basis thereafter. Please note, free spaces are limited to 2 per organisation. We can offer up to two additional spaces at a small cost to your organisation, or arrange a bespoke session for staff teams of 4+. If you would like to find out more about bespoke training for your organisation, please contact emma.mclean@volunteerglasgow.org.Get Ready To Volunteer – group sessions
Get Ready To Volunteer is an introductory session aimed at people with limited experience of volunteering. This 1 hour session can be tailored to suit the needs of the group and covers the following:

  • What is volunteering?
  • Benefits of volunteering
  • Issues to consider before starting volunteering
  • How to get involved including a demonstration on how to use Volunteer Glasgow’s website to search for opportunities.
  • Time for Q&A’s
If you would like to arrange a session for a group of service users, please contact engagement@volunteerglasgow.org. Please note, due to capacity issues, we can only offer two free sessions per month. If there is no space, you may request a spot on our waiting list, or enquire about bespoke sessions for a small fee.

Volunteering Drop-In for Individuals
Our drop-in session takes place every Wednesday between 11am-1pm at the offices of Skills Development Scotland (SDS),  Monteith House, 11 George Square, Glasgow G2 1DY. Everybody is welcome and there is no need to make an appointment!

Future guidance for individuals with additional needs

If you are working with an individual who requires further support to access volunteering, we may be able to offer a 1-1 appointment online, by telephone or in-person from our office at Brunswick House in Glasgow city centre. Please note, these appointments are limited and will be offered on a case-by-case basis. Contact us on (0141) 226 3431 or email engagement@volunteerglasgow.org.

That’s it from us for now, but keep an eye on our website and social media channels (Volunteer Glasgow on Facebook and Instagram, @volunteerglasgo on Twitter) to keep up to date with Volunteer Glasgow. In the meantime, we’ll leave you with this little quote about Spring from Russian author Leo Tolstoy: “Spring is the time of plans and projects.” Sounds like the perfect time to start volunteering!  🐣🌷🌷🌱
