Befriending Young People
Minimum Age: You must be at least 18 years old to volunteer for this opportunity.
About this opportunity:
Are you looking to make a positive difference in a young vulnerable person's life? With social isolation, inequality and child poverty on the rise, the need for befrienders to help a child see the light at the end of the tunnel is higher than ever. If you care passionately about child welfare or are looking to gain relevant experience in health, social care or education- befriend a child today! Once trained, volunteers at the project will go on 1-to-1 outings to various leisure activities ( swimming, bowling, gym, cinema, Mcdonalds etc.) with young people aged 8 to 18 in the local area for a period of 1 year. They will give a young person a positive role model in their life by passing on their skills and experience, enabling them to try new experiences and simply providing them with a few hours of fun.
A victim of circumstance, your young person may have experienced social isolation, bullying, domestic abuse or neglect, parental drug and alcohol abuse, may have learning difficulties, may be a young offender, or any combination of these. By giving up just a couple of hours every week or fortnight, you could make a real difference where it is needed most. You do not need any qualifications , however we expect our volunteers to commit for a minimum of 1 year and be non-judgemental above all.
Frequency & Commitment: You must commit to contact with your young person on at least a fortnightly basis for a period of 12 months
