WHAT IS THE WELLBEING INITIATIVE?
The Wellbeing Initiative a training organisation specialising in the delivery of Administration SVQ's at level 1 and 2 to a client group who suffer from a physical disability / health condition. The program was set up in 1985 and is jointly funded by Glasgow City Council, and the European Social Fund.
We provide project based tuition with practical experience through a 'real' work environment and this is followed up by a period of employer placement.
The course is designed for anyone with a physical disability/health condition who would like to update their existing skills or people who may wish to learn office skills for the first time.
The course content includes Information Technology training including – Internet access, e-mail, word processing and spreadsheets. It also includes all aspects of office skills including – reception, mail handling, stock control, filing, health and safety and how to operate and care for all office equipment.
Training sessions cover applicable legislation within an office environment and include Data Protection Act, Disability Discrimination Act, Health and Safety at Work Act and Equal Opportunities.
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
One of the main components of the course is to rebuild confidence/self esteem that has been eroded through long periods of inactivity. We do this by providing in-house training courses in assertiveness, communication skills, interview techniques, disability awareness, CV preparation and guidance on completing job applications. Ongoing guidance and counselling is provided throughout.
HOW LONG DOES THE COURSE LAST?
Usually for a 1 year period with the last 12 weeks on placement. Training is normally delivered over 4 days in the week from 10am to 3.00pm. We operate a continuous programme whereby people can join at any time of the year.
EXPENSES
Full travel expenses will be paid and taxis provided for those unable to use public transport. A training allowance of £20 per week is available also.
