WHAT
IS IT?
Priesthill Volunteers and Disabled People is a small project
based on the south side of Glasgow that provides
social support to local adults who are isolated
because of a learning disability, a physical impairment
or a combination of both.
We provide volunteer befrienders and offer group activities
to help promote community integration and combat the loneliness
often experienced by disabled people.
Usually, we have about 40-45 people using our services,
which are provided by approximately 30 volunteers.
ACTIVITIES
The range of activities that we offer is as diverse and
varied as the people who are involved with the project.
Although nights out at the theatre, shopping trips
and going to the cinema remain firm favourites, we have
had groups go paint-balling, people involved in pigeon fancying
and a night out at a comedy club at the Edinburgh Festival!
TRAINING
We are always recruiting new volunteers and provide a
short induction-training programme, which covers subjects
like:
-befriending,
-boundaries,
-basic disability awareness and
-confidentiality.
We also offer additional training that volunteers might
find useful like managing epilepsy and visual
impairment awareness training.
