Organisers need to get a grip
Don’t “use” volunteers as “tools” – work WITH us as SUPPORTERS of a shared cause/interest:
- Thank us for our time, skills and energy PERSONALLY not with a blanket mail-merged letter…
- Pay attention to our INDIVIDUAL motivations…
- Design and modify our tasks and roles accordingly…
- Frankly, start working with people as EQUALS, not herds of sheep that keep your grass short while you’ve to manage the bi-products…
- Work with ‘us’ NOT ‘them’ – because next time, ‘them’ might mean ‘YOU’.
- Then you’ll really start harnessing some people POWER.
Controversial? Debate it at a FREE seminar on event management and volunteering in Hamilton on Friday 20th JULY, 10.15-14.30, at University of the West of Scotland, with speakers from Canada, New Zealand and our own Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games Organising Committee.
