Glasgow’s FIRST Volunteer Friendly Awards

At the end of Volunteers’ Week, during this European Year of Volunteering, Volunteer Centre Glasgow is delighted to announce that 8 local organisations have achieved the national Volunteer Friendly Award:

  • North West Women’s Centre
  • Community Central Hall
  • The Disability Community
  • Cranhill Community Project
  • Playbusters
  • Visibility
  • Braehead Shopmobility
  • Glasgow Simon Community

Volunteering is the fabric which holds our society together and many essential services in Glasgow’s communities rely heavily on the energy and enthusiasm of volunteers.

Volunteering also has a significant value for volunteers themselves and it increasingly gives individuals the chance to build their confidence and skills through helping others.

It has never been more important for groups to be able to show how good they are at involving, supporting and managing their volunteers.

The Volunteer Friendly Award is a simple, user-friendly quality standard designed to support, recognise and reward groups who are good at working with volunteers.

The Award is based on Investing in Volunteers and has been developed by Volunteer Centre Dundee with Fairer Scotland funding. Volunteer Friendly has been rolled out to Volunteer Centres and interfaces across Scotland with funding from the Big Lottery Fund in Scotland, through the Supporting Voluntary Action (SVA) Programme being administered by the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO). Fourteen areas in Scotland are currently delivering the Award: Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Angus, Dundee, East Lothian, East Renfrewshire, Edinburgh, Fife, Glasgow, Highland, Midlothian, Moray, Perthshire and Stirling.
