Funding Update

Funding Extra is an excellent digest of funding sources available to the voluntary sector in Glasgow. The Glasgow Equality Networks Forum updates this weekly.

Sport Relief Community Cash is now available with a fund exclusively for Glasgow. A £62,500 Community Cash fund raised through Sport Relief is being made available to small groups in Glasgow who help people living tough lives. Grants of between £500 and £1000 and the kind of activities which might receive funding include parent and toddler groups, community festivals, cross generational work, befriending for older, isolated people and lunch clubs (this is not an exhaustive list). The deadline is 5th March 2010.

The Clothworkers’ Foundation is currently welcoming applications within the following areas: young people, social inclusion, elderly, disability and visual impairment.

Comic Relief have also announced that they will open their Sport for Change programme towards the end of February. The aim of the programme will be to understand more about how sport can play a part in delivering positive change within the lives of individuals and communities. Comic Relief will welcome applications from community groups and organisations using sport as part of a broader programme of work to bring about change at an individual and /or community level. Maximum grant available is £100,000. Deadline for expressions of interest is April.

The Voluntary Action Fund's Community Chest small grants programme provides grants of up to £1,000 and free training to help small community groups sustain and develop their activities. They are particularly keen to fund activities that will help build and develop strong organisations, for example: training for committee members and volunteers, visits to other organisations or conferences; Professional support or consultancy. Applications are welcome throughout the year with the next deadline being the 31 March 2010.
