New Year's Resolution
January is, traditionally, the busiest month of the year for
new interest in volunteering. Over the holidays and during January more
than double the average number of people look for volunteering
opportunities through our website. Are the opportunities we are
displaying for you up-to-date? Please take the time to review your
online adverts and let us know (before Xmas!) of any changes you would
like to make.
Volunteering Special Offers!
A number of people have recently contacted the Volunteer
Centre to offer specific skills. They have not been screened by the VC
and we would ask that you follow up with your own selection procedures.

Funding Extra
Funding Extra is an excellent digest of funding sources
available to the voluntary sector in Glasgow. The Glasgow Equality
Networks Forum updates this weekly.
The latest releases include :
- The Co-operative Foundations new Truth about Youth programme
- Winter Celebration grants from Age Concern
- Comic Relief programmes Older People, Refugees and Young
People (Trafficked/Mental Health/Alcohol)
Community Chest Fund
The Voluntary Action Funds Community Chest Fund is especially
keen to hear from groups who work with disability or health related
issues, provide childcare or whose beneficiaries face exclusion due to
their ethnicity, disability gender or sexual orientation. Next deadline
for applications is 31st December. Grants are available up to £1000 for
orgs with income of less than £25,000. Applications can be found at
www.voluntaryactionfund.org.uk.
First Group Grants - Young People, Health, the Environment
What's it for? Funding activities for young people, for
health, or for the Environment. Aimed at charities and community groups

IT Support
iT4Communities is a UK wide national IT volunteering charity
that introduces volunteer IT professionals to charities needing any
type of IT help and support. Examples of things the professional
volunteers can help with include IT strategy, servers and networks,
websites, IT buying advice, database development and more. There is a
cost of £85 for 12 months, which includes as many requests for
volunteers as your organisation needs.

Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme Update and consultation
On 10 November, the Scottish Government announced the fees for
checks under the Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme and published, in
draft, the significant secondary legislation required to implement the
Scheme for consultation. The consultation will run until 2 February 2010. Read more about the Protecting Vulnerable Groups scheme and give your feedback

Record Numbers achieve Investing in Volunteers Award
We are happy to report that 16 organisations in Scotland this
quarter have been awarded the Investing in Volunteers accreditation.

Xmas trees for sale
Support a local social enterprise: From their Alderman Road
Gardens the Coach House Trust will deliver the tree to you and after
the festivities they will pick it up for recycling. Service available
in central and west Glasgow only.
Problem Solving
Need help to find a solution for your charity/not-for-profit
organisation/ community group? The University of Glasgow Settlement and
Student Representative Council are inviting organisations to submit
'requests' for help for next Summer 2010 where you would receive a team
of 2 students that can work over an 8-week period to provide a solution
to a specific problem. Read about Find a Solution or complete the terms of
reference form at the University of Glasgow website or contact volunteer@src.gla.uk. Deadline for
submissions is 11th January.
Social Enterprise Survey
The result of the first 'State of Social Enterprise' survey
has been published. Figures suggest that there are 62,000 social
enterprises in the UK contributing £24billion to the UK economy and in
spite of the recession, 56% have increased their turnover during the
