Not only do the MV Awards recognise the achievements of young volunteers, they're also a valuable recognition of your organisation's commitment to creating positive volunteering experiences for young people.

MV Awards are available for young volunteers aged 16-25 through every Volunteer Centre in Scotland and are endorsed by the Scottish Government.

Award certificates are presented when 50, 100, and 200 hours are completed by the volunteer. The hours can be completed over two years and Awards can also be offered for these retrospectively. The Cabinet Secretary for Finance & Sustainable Growth signs the 50 and 100 hour award certificates, and the 200 hour Award of Excellence is signed by the First Minister.

How do the MV Awards help my group/organisation create positive volunteering experiences for young people?
Young volunteers especially value schemes that provide certificated recognition for the work they have undertaken. The MV Awards give you a straightforward mechanism for you to offer this. You must record the hours a young person volunteers, and you can take advantage of the other "toolkit" elements available to ensure an individual's volunteering is planned both for their benefit and for your organisation's. Get your copy of the "toolkit" in pdf or Word formats below. In addition, the Volunteer Centre can provide you with further information, advice and training to help you develop volunteering - click on the relevant menu links on the left or give us a ring during office hours.

Can the Volunteer Centre help me involve more young people in our work?
We may be able to help find more volunteers for the work of your group/organisation, but (if you've not already done so) you need to give us some basic details about the opportunities you can offer: please complete an "Opportunity details form" for each of the opportunities you can offer.

If your organisation registers with the Volunteer Centre to provide MV Awards for your young volunteers, and you advertise volunteering opportunities on our website, we will be able to place the MV Awards logo on your opportunity listings. This may increase the enquiries you receive from young people looking to volunteer via our website or from staff making referrals.

How can I offer similar awards for all our group/organisation's volunteers if they're over 25 or under 16?
Many groups/organisations organise annual events to recognise the achievements of their volunteers, often these coincide with annual Volunteers Week (1st-7th June). Some groups use the certificates and other resources available for Volunteers Week, while others choose to create their own certificates and/or other recognition mechanisms. If you have volunteers aged 14 and 15, however, please give us a call. For info on Volunteers Week in Scotland have a look at the Volunteer Development Scotland website.
