The scheme was set to promote the involvement of volunteers to befriend isolated and vulnerable older people living in the G15 area. We also provide support to people over 50 with physical disabilities and/or suffering from mental health problems.

Project aims & objectives:

  • to provide individual support and companionship through home visiting volunteers
  • to encourage members to get out and about
  • to provide a lunch club for members to make new friends & try activities
  • to offer a couple of hours respite to carers via home visitors and through our lunch club
  • to recruit volunteers to help with the above and offer training & support

What do volunteers do?

Keep the person company in their own home for a couple of hours per week -have a chat, offer a listening ear
Offer friendship and relieve isolation - brighten someone's day with a visit, everyone gets lonely from time to time
Help them get out and about-going to shops etc
Keep them up to date with local events & services - perhaps escort them on a project outing

There is no typical volunteer, volunteers come from a range of backgrounds ~ all we require is that people have time to listen and show a caring interest in others who need extra support.
New volunteers must complete a preparation - training course, which equips them with all they need to know about their befriending role. We also offer volunteers regular support and provide a variety of other training options and activities within the Project.
