Running for intandem!
Do you want to help us make a difference? Ian, one of our Befriending & Mentoring Team volunteers, is running the Great Scottish Half Marathon to raise money for our intandem youth mentoring programme and he needs your help!
intandem is Scotland’s mentoring programme for young people aged 8 to 14 who are looked after at home. Ian has been volunteering with intandem for the last two years, mentoring a young lad to help him become more confident, make new friendships and reach his potential.
The intandem programme Volunteer Glasgow runs happens via weekly visits from trained adult volunteers and young people facing difficult life circumstances in the South and North-West of Glasgow. Mentors and their matched young people head out together on outings to the cinema, football games, the zoo; anything they’re interested in and keen to do! These outings with a trusted adult help young people develop their confidence, explore new things in their communities and access fun activities they might not normally be able to. It costs as little as £10 to provide activities on these weekly outings and make a real difference in a vulnerable young person’s life. Ian knows first hand just how big a change mentoring can make to someone, and it’s why he’s taking to the streets on the 29th of September to run a half marathon for Volunteer Glasgow. g
We’re so proud of Ian and we want to make sure all that training pays off and he reaches his goal! All the money made through the GoFundMe page goes straight to the intandem mentoring programme: no deductions, no fees, no middle man. Whether you can spare a tenner or just a couple of quid, your donation helps us to change lives.
- £10 would pay for 1 mentoring visit.
- £50 would pay for a months worth of mentoring.
- £300 would pay for a Halloween Party for our matches.
- £1,000 would pay for the costs of a group work program for young people who are waiting for a mentor.
We hope that you’ll join us in cheering Ian on! Visit his GoFundMe page here.
If you’re keen to lend a hand but can’t spare any change, you can come along to the Volunteer Glasgow offices on 10 Bothwell Street on Wednesday the 18th of September from 6PM, when we’ll be painting T-shirts and banners for the big day.
